2. Detailed Meaning of Ziya
Ziya means “source of light”, “radiance”, something that shines brilliantly and lightens up the area around it. It is mentioned three times in the Quran:
It is He who made the sun a shining light and the moon a derived light and determined for it phases – that you may know the number of years and account [of time]. Allah has not created this except in truth. He details the signs for a people who know {10:5}
Say, ‘Have you considered: if Allah should make the night continuous over you until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you light/radiance? Then will you not hear?’ Say, ‘Have you considered: if Allah should make the day continuous over you until the Day of Resurrection, what deity other than Allah could bring you a night in which you may rest? Then will you not see?’ And it is out of His mercy that He made for you the night and the day that you may rest therein and that you may seek from His bounty and that perhaps you will be grateful. (28:71-73)
And We had certainly given Moses and Aaron the criterion and a light and reminder for the righteous. Who fear their Lord unseen and they, of the Hour, are apprehensive. And this [Quran] is a blessed reminder which We have sent down. Then are you with it deniers? And We had certainly given Abraham his sound judgement before, and We were of him knowing. (21:48-51)
