Meaning of Sanaa
Sanaa is an indirect Quranic name for girls that means “greatness”, “highness of status”. It shouldn’t be confused with the Quranic name Sana, both of which are derived from the same root. It is not directly mentioned in the Quran but its root is mentioned in Quran 24:43:
Do you not see that Allah drives clouds? Then He brings them together, then He makes them into a mass, and you see the rain emerge from within it. And He sends down from the sky, mountains [of clouds] within which is hail, and He strikes with it whom He wills and averts it from whom He wills. The flash of its lightening almost takes away the eyesight.
The difference between Sanaa and Sana is that Sanaa has a “hamza” letter at the end, which cannot be pronounced in English. For this reason when pronounced, both names sound the same and you are free which name you wish to mean by it.
