Meaning of Rida
Rida (also spelled as Riza) is an indirect Quranic name for both boys and girls that means “contentment” and “the state of being obedient toward God”, “the state of gaining the approval and pleasure of God”.
It’s used more for boys since it has a specifically female version (Ridwan). But I’ve also seen it used for girls and there is no grammatical/Islamic reason not to use it for girls. Rida al-Kurdawi is a famous Egyptian woman.
It is not directly mentioned in the Quran, but it root is R-DHAL-A which is used in many places:
they will swear to you, so that you may be pleased with them. But [even] if you are pleased with them, God is not pleased with rebellious people. (Quran 9:96)
83. “And what made you rush ahead of your people, O Moses?” 84. He said, “They are following in my footsteps; and I hurried on to You, my Lord, that you may be pleased.” (Quran 20:83-84)
So bear patiently what they say, and celebrate the praises of your Lord before the rising of the sun, and before its setting. And during the hours of the night glorify Him, and at the borders of the day, that you may be satisfied. (Quran 20:13)
